Cheek augmentation / Cheek reduction

There are many different patient wishes when it comes to changing the way the cheek region looks. Some prefer a more prominent or higher cheek bone, others like a reduction in this area. Again, others seek more balance to their face or a very specific change of volume and shape. .

The most popular methods to make these wishes come true are: facial implants, removal of the cheek (buccal) fat pad and fat transfer to the face.

Facial Implants

Many people like to change the shape of their faces. Some seek a more defined or accentuated look, others are looking for a more balanced and harmonious look.

Facial implants come in various materials and shapes, allowing for very specific changes of facial structure and volume.

Method

A fully trained specialist facial surgeon will be able to insert facial implants from inside of your mouth, so that no external scars remain. The implants are best placed directly onto the bone.

Procedure

Duration of operation: 1,5-2 hours
Anesthetic: usually general anaesthetic
Hospital stay: ambulant
Removal of sutures: 7 days postop
Ok to go out: 1 to 2 weeks postop

Cheek (buccal) fat pad reduction

Many people would like a more defined, chiselled look to their face. Whilst some might profit from facial liposuction, others might achieve a beneficial reduction of their facial volume by cheek (buccal) fat pad reduction.

Method

The cheek fat pad sits just below the cheek bone. It can be large in some patients, whilst being small in others. The fat pad reduction is performed via a small cut inside of the mouth.

It can produce a slimmer face in a very distinct area best indicated to you by your specialist facial surgeon.

Procedure

Duration of operation: 1,5-2 hours
Anesthetic: usually general anaesthetic
Hospital stay: ambulant
Removal of sutures: 7 days postop
Ok to go out: 1 to 2 weeks postop

Fat transfer to face

Did you know that loss of fat support is one of the three main reasons for facial ageing, leading to a gaunt and haggard look?

Fat injection can reverse this problem. In comparison to facial implants, which produce a more defined / chiselled look, fat transfer produces softer results. Therefore, it is very suitable for volume restoration in gaunt faces, or where the main aim is facial rejuvenation.

The effect often lasts for years and is especially suitable where larger volumes are required such as in heavy weight loss.

Method

Surplus fat is harvested by means of mini-liposuction from the abdomen or thigh. It is then cleaned and injected into the facial area where you have lost it with ageing. In contrast to man- made injectables, fat transfer shows no allergic reactions.

Procedure

Duration of operation: 1,5-2 hours
Anesthetic: usually general anaesthetic
Hospital stay: ambulant
Removal of sutures: 7 days postop
Ok to go out: 1 to 2 weeks postop
